This title inspired by that song by Ingrid Michaelson. If you don't know it, you can listen to it here. You won't regret it.
So, it's that time again. Lobster Fishing season here in Key West! This year, Tyler's brother and sister-in-law came to spend the week with us and experience the lobster fishing for themselves.

They came a few days early to hang with us in Ft. Lauderdale. The night they got here, we had a little going away party for our good friends The Johns (seperate post about that later) and Carrie and Todd were good sports and came along.
We also spent some time at Bass Pro Shop (because who doesn't do that on vacation?):
And enjoyed sushi with the May's:
Tuesday morning we got up ready for the good stuff. We had an estimated time of departure of 1:00. Actual time was 5:00. Only four hours later than planned. That's what happens when the lights on your boat trailer aren't working and you find out on your way out of town. Not off to the best start and the boys weren't feeling super happy by the time we actually left Ft. Laudy Daudy. Luckily the drive to Key West is super entertaining because of giant staues of sea animals all along the way and billboard signs with trashy ladies advertising family restaurants. That helped lighten the mood pretty quickly. I made Tyler promise that if we ever drive down to the Keys with no kids that we would stop at every sea creature statue along the way and take pictures with them. It may take us two days to make it down to Key West but I think it would be worth it to get pictures with things like this:
Once we got to the hotel we settled in and made it our home for the next few days:
Unfortunately, they didn't have much luck with the Lobsters so we decided to go to our favorite restaurant to lift everyones spirits:
On Wednesday (Tyler's Birthday), Tyler, Todd and Carrie got up to get an early start on the Lobster Fishing. Because the waters were rough that day, Owen, Collette and I decided to stay at the hotel and do this:
And then went home to celebrate the birth of this amazing man:
Thursday morning we got up late and headed out to sea to try our hands at catching some lobster (again).
Owen has become such a great little swimmer. He loved hanging on to the rope, letting go and riding the current into mommy and daddy's arms. |
And this kid. She was a perfect little boater. She just chilled in the shade all day. Don't judge me, I only took her life jacket off for a photo op. |
Unfortunately that was the only one we caught over the course of the two days. Luckily, we still had some fun things in store for us in Key West. Like the sunset celebration that night:
And some super yummy pizza:
Luckily for us, you could take a breathalyzer test right across the way for only three dollars.
Totally worth it.
We got up Friday and headed back downtown for a few hours. We HAD to go back to check out this place:
Because who doesn't want to learn about underwater treasure?
We also wanted to head back downtown just for this:
No matter how many times I see this sculpture, I can never get over it. It's so weird to me.
Also, Tyler wanted to visit his stores while we were there. Owen really liked that idea so that he could do this for a while:
After a few hours in Key West we decided it was time to make our way back home. On our way we stopped at Robbie's. This place is awesome. You can feed the tarpon, like this:
We were loving it, especially Owen.
Pretty cool little pit stop on the way home.
We finally made it back to the house about 8:00 that night and decided we better cook up the one lobster we caught.
It was fantastic. Thanks husband for being so good with the grill. Yummy!
You all might be wondering if we were sad to only come home with one lobster. The answer to that question is no... and this is why... We can't wait to have an excuse to go back to Key West again soon and jump back in those beautiful caribbean waters! Come join us!

What a fun get away. We haven't made it past key largo yet, but key west is on our list. Lobster fishing looks awesome! Your little fam has such awesome adventures!
T Rhodes is good with the grill - gettin' up in MY grill that is. Happy Birthdy brobers. You rockin' it in your old age.
I don't care that we only caught one lobster. I would come down every year just to hang out with you guys. It was so fun to be with you! The Keys were so beautiful, the water was warm and amazing! I still can't believe how good O & C were on the boat (except for the objects going overboard :). We love you guys!
I found that song on Pandora kids songs which was random but love it because they say Ella in the song!! We are doing key west soon but need a good place to stay....let me know if you have a good hotel you like. Looks like you guys had fun!!
How fun!! You guys do SOOOO many great things & make such fun memories. And you are such a fun Mom to do it all with a newborn!
I guess Sen will remember how she spent the summer peeing outside on the lawn and killing ants while I holler from the kitchen for her to "be careful to watch for bees-cause they'll sting ya"...I think that is just marginally different from spending the summer going to the beach and playing in the ocean and stuff.
I miss ya! I need to call ya! I am just waiting for a period of uninterrupted, relaxation time that I can just soak in all the great conversation we need to have. Your kids are just the cutest little things...that baby girl is too cute...seriously everything about her is just dreamy.
Brit I am so glad you passed the breathalyzer test. I was a bit worried! I know you and your booze!!
